Join with Sommelier Erica Archer on a visit to the world renown wine regions of Napa and Sonoma, California, on October 10-14, 2016. If you love wine, food, beautiful scenery, some adventure and relaxing too … You’re in for an incredible vacation. This trip is now sold out. We are happy to put you on a wait list for this and future Wine Wise Trips.
In addition to tasting many great wines of these regions and sub-regions, you’ll be learning a lot about the art of wine appreciation from a great teacher, enjoying delicious foods at great eateries, and a stay at the historic White House Inn just steps from the downtown of Napa with it’s beautiful shops and eateries.
This historic 17-room, resort-style Napa boutique hotel features contemporary decor and stylish details. Enjoy the three block walk to Napa’s downtown shopping, art galleries, wine tasting and some of the Valley’s finest cuisine.
Our itinerary is as follows:
Day 1: Monday, October 10
Arrive at The White House Inn Napa in time for our 11 am for departure to Sonoma’s Russian River Valley and a day of incredible tastings at Thomas George Estates where we’ll enjoy a tasting of small-lot artisan wines followed by lunch in the vineyard. Then we’ll head to nearby Copain Wines, a hilltop winery overlooking the bucolic Russian River Valley with breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and vineyards. After these two incredible tastings we’ll venture to the downtown Healdsburg, peppered with art galleries, artisan shops, and eateries… but don’t dine just yet. You’ll be dining with us at one of our favorite eateries before returning to the hotel for some time by the fire pit, pool, or straight to bed for a good night’s sleep to be ready for our incredible morning excursion.
After breakfast at hotel we’ll make our way to Cakebread Cellars, Sequoia Grove, and Joseph Phelps for some incredible wines, tastings, and tours. We’ll head to the beautiful center of Yountville where we’ll dine in the private wine room of Bottega, one of Napa’s most renowned restaurants. We’ve scheduled dinner on the early side tonight since we have an early start for hot air balloon riding in the morning. Spend some evening time after dinner by the hotel’s fire pit, pool, or head straight to bed for our early start.
Day 3: Wednesday, October 12
Experience an incredible early morning hot-air balloon ride over breathtaking landscape of Napa Valley. Then we’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch at Angèle before our scenic drive to CADE Estate Winery located 1800 feet above sea level, high above the fog line on the dramatic slopes of Howell Mountain, just northeast of the town of St. Helena. You’ll experience the powerful yet nuanced expressions of mountain terroir by tasting their luxury, high-altitude estate Cabernet Sauvignon. You’ll have dinner on your own this night in one of the town of Napa’s many delicious restaurants or Oxbow Market.
Day 4: Thursday, October 13
Breakfast at Inn followed by a tasting and tour of Newton Vineyards in a six-wheel-drive Pinzgauer. You’ll climb through the vineyard on your way to Pino Solo, their iconic tree located at the top of the property where you’ll enjoy unique panoramic views of Napa Valley and a one-of-a-kind tasting of wines selected especially for this tour. Then we’ll visit Gott’s Roadside —one of the areas ‘must visit’ eateries—for lunch on your own. After lunch we’ll visit Pritchard Hill and Chappellet Vineyards, widely considered one of Napa Valley’s premier districts and wineries. Then you’ll have a few hours leisure time to relax or shop in Napa before meeting at Celadon for dinner, a 10 minute walk from the hotel.
Day 5: Friday, October 14
Breakfast at the Inn and check-out for those not staying over at the Inn on Friday night. Then we’ll take a short drive to Sonoma’s Carneros region to the stunning regional landmark of Domaine Carneros Château and a tasting of small grower-producer methóde champenoise sparkling wine and Pinot Noirs. Then we’ll take a short drive to Gloria Ferrer Winery for a tasting on the Vista Terrace and one last look at the beautiful regions of Napa and Sonoma before 4pm transport from the hotel to the airport.
